Le Festin

Here's our cover of Le Festin, from Ratatouille. Featuring Joanne on vocals! And me on accordion, saxophone, glockenspiel, and hand rubbing noises.

MISSED CONNECTION:
On the 23rd of June 2020, I was playing saxophone in the evening (in my house, in Walnut). During a brief pause, I heard a disembodied voice from the street through my window. She asked me if I could play the song from Ratatouille. I did. She called out, thanks, that was cool, and that was the last I heard. If this was you, hit me up using the contact form on my home page.

Other random notes:

I initially had a lot of trouble recording the accordion part on this until I just disconnected the audio interface from the computer and took recordings directly on the H6. This meant that I couldn't see the live waveform while I was recording it and I could just focus on playing the music instead. Turns out that makes a better recording, who could have known?

I'm so happy to have Joanne sing on this! Singing is hard and singing in French is extra hard, and she is excellent. The vocals on this are mic'd extra close.

When I listened to the sax solo I suddenly had a flashback to high school band, to a time when my band director was like, you really like that syrupy sound, don't you? Yes. Thanks Dr. C.

Originally we did not plan for there to be a glockenspiel in this song. But I acquired one to play Christmas music with and I think it really brightens this recording up!

I saw this article titled Finally, a Theremin for Rats today, and I can't stop thinking about it. If you or anyone you know would be interested in building a theremin for rats, let me know. I'll supply the theremins (courtesy of OpenTheremin), and you'll supply the rats.

Thanks to Joanne for reading a draft of this post, singing, and originating the phrase "tiny rat chef's kiss"
